Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning about position. We have been using words such as:
-left
-right
-forwards
-backwards
-sidewards
-in front
-behind
-whole turn
-half turn
-quarter turn
We went outside and followed some instructions using these words.
We have also been learning to tell the time. We learned that if the big hand is on the 12, it is an 'o'clock' time. If the big hand is on the 6, it is a 'half past' time. Some of us even worked out that if the big hand is on the 3 it is quarter past then hour.

Sports Relief
On Friday 18th March, 1.1 helped to raise money towards Sports Relief. Some children paid to wear their own sports clothes, some children bought a wrist band and others took part in a one-mile run with 1.2. Well done everybody!

Mini-beast hunting
To start off Science Week, we begun an investigation into mini-beasts.
First we discussed what mini-beasts are and thought of lots of different types of mini-beasts.
Then we talked about where we would find each mini-beast and we wondered if there were any mini-beasts around school.
We went on a mini-beast hunt to see which ones we could find and where they were living.
We found that there were lots of ladybirds around, particularly near the flowers. We also discovered some worms on the damp soil and in dark, wet places. When we moves some stones, there were ants underneath. There were also some flies that flew past us and there was a spider's web in the hut, although we didn't actually see a spider.

Designing and making a Tudor house
In DT we looked at Tudor houses, like the ones that were burned in the Great Fire of London. We were told that we were going to use boxes and tubes to make a model of a house.
First we investigated different materials and thought about which tape or glue would be the best to hold the boxes together. We decided that masking tape would be good, especially as it could also be painted over. We also learned that some boxes has shiny surfaces and were more difficult to paint than others so we decided that we should turn the boxes inside out.
With this in mind, we designed our house, thinking carefully about which materials we would use.
After that we chose our materials and started making our houses. We showed some excellent teamwork!

Next we shared our design with a partner and thought of how to combine our ideas to make one house between us.
We were very proud of our models and are looking forward to painting them.
