PE

We had a great PE lesson this morning.

First we started with some warm up games.  We moved around the hall in different ways and made different shapes with our bodies.

Then we learned different compass directions and practised moving North, East, South and West.  We had to listen very carefully to our instructions and travel in different directions.

Next we worked in teams to play a game called 'Dishes and Domes'.  The aim of the game was to work with our team members to turn as many cones over before the other team turned them back again.

Well done to the winning team!

We ended our lesson by playing the hoop game again.  We were much better at this today and managed to pass the hoop around the circle very quickly.

Using Music to accompany a story

In Music this week, we have been thinking about using actions and sounds to help us retell a story.  We re-read the story of We're Going on a Bear Hunt and then decided together how we could use our bodies to make each sound.  After that, we listened to the sounds that different instruments made and we used these to help us retell the story.

2D and 3D shapes

In Maths we have been thinking about 2D and 3D shapes.

Can you remember the difference?

We described some shapes according to their properties.

Can you guess which 2D shape I am thinking of?
It has 4 sides.
It has 4 corners.
2 sides are long.
2 sides are short?

We sorted squares, circles, triangles and rectangles.

Then we thought about 3D shapes.  These are the solid shapes that we can pick up and move around.  We learned the names of:
  • Cube
  • Cuboid
  • Cylinder
  • Sphere
  • Square-based pyramid

We were set a challenge of making 3D shapes out of straws and plastercine.  This was not easy!

Here are some of our finished shapes.

Umar worked very hard to count the corners on his cuboid.

Medinah and Alfie had a look around the classroom and found lots of different shapes.

Computing

In Computing this week, we are looking at a unit called 'We are Storytellers.'  The aim of this is to create a story and use digital equipment to add sound clips.

Today we used 2Simple in the computer room.  We began to draw pictures and add text to our story.  We also used a microphone to record a sound clip to accompany our story.  Tomorrow we are hoping to combine the story and the sound clip.
