Spelling Stars

An amazing 18 children got all of their spellings right today!  This is the best we have ever had.  Well done 1.1.  Let's see if we can beat this next week.

Dance Festival

12 children from 1.1 took part in a Dance Festival at Hodge Hill Girls' School.  They were the youngest children at the festival and they did us proud!  They danced to 'I just can't wait to be king' from The Lion King and were all amazing!

We would like to thank Miss Miller for all of her hard work and help with our rehearsals and our fantastic face paint!

Anti-Bullying Week

We started Anti-Bullying Week by thinking about what the word 'Bullying' mean to us.  We created a class brainstorm to show this.

Then we learned the difference between bulling and just being unkind.  We talked about how bullying is something that is done:
Several
Times
On
Purpose.

We read a story about some animals and talked about which animal was the bully and how he made the others feel.  We all thought about times when we have felt scared and frightened because of someone else's behaviour.

Then we read some different scenarios.  We had to decide whether they showed bullying or just a person who was unkind.

Here are some examples

Sam is upset because Tom tripped him up when they were running.  Sam and Tom are usually good friends.

We decided that this was not bullying because it may have been an accident and they usually play nicely together.

Every time Connor sees Jake he pushes him or calls him nasty names.

We said that this was a good example of real bullying because it has happened more than once and Connor is hurting Jake and making him feel sad.

Finally we designed our own signs to try and stop bullying.

Throwing and catching

In PE with Mr Simmons this morning, we learned how to throw and catch a tennis ball.  We focused on improving our co-ordination.

We started off by balancing the ball in our hands in different ways.

Then we used a cone to catch our balls in.

We realised that balancing a ball on our head is not very easy!

Finally we practised walking whilst bouncing and catching a ball.  This was also very tricky, especially when trying to catch using just one hand.

Dance Festival Rehearsals

Next Thursday 12 children from 1.1 are taking part in a Dance Festival at Hodge Hill Girls' School.  They have been working very hard with Miss Bowkett and Miss Miller over the past two weeks to learn a dance.  Today the rest of the class went to see their rehearsal.  They are doing brilliantly!

Project winner

Well done to Amelie.  She was our class project winner.  Amelie did a fantastic piece of writing about Tim Peake and made a lovely mobile about the planets.  Well done Amelie!
