We had a lovely afternoon yesterday. As an introduction to our topic work about the seaside, our teachers turned the hall into a beach! We played in the sand, watched a Punch and Judy show, tried on beach clothes, wrote postcards and ate ice-cream! We are very excited to learn more about the beach over the next few weeks.

Snail investigation
In Science we carried out an investigation using snails. We had to work out what is a snail's favourite food. to do this we gave the snails a choice of 4 foods - carrot, apple, pear and pepper. the snail then crawled to the food it liked best. We found that every snail liked a different food!
We really enjoyed learning about snails and spent a lot of time watching them go in and out of their shell.

Super subtraction!
This week in Maths we have been working on solving subtraction problems in different ways.
First we thought about all the different words that mean subtraction... How many can you remember?
Then we solved some simple problems using our tens grids.
On Wednesday we were learning how to find the difference between numbers. We used two colours to make rows of objects for each number. Then we looked at how many didn't have a partner. the left over ones were the difference. Next we wrote this as a subtraction sentence, remembering to put the largest number first.
