Celebrating the Queen's birthday

On Friday we had a lovely day celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday.  We worked very hard last week preparing for the party and we all had lots of fun!

At the start of the week we made our crowns to wear at the party.

On Friday morning we performed to Year 3.  We taught them the song that we had learned from the 1980s, Celebrate.  They taught us lots about the 1960s.

We had lots of fun during playtime on the back grass.

We all looked great in our red, white and blue clothes.

We listened to the other year groups performing their songs.

We enjoyed eating the party food!

Science investigation

This week we have been planting our own sunflower seeds ready to start our Science investigation.

We are investigating what plants need to help them grow.  To do this we have planted 4 sunflower seeds.  We are going to keep each seed in different conditions and monitor which seed grows the best.

Seed A is going to be on the windowsill, in the light and we will water it.
Seed B is going to be on the windowsill, in the light but we will not water it.
Seed C is going to be in the cupboard, in the dark and we will water it.
Seed D is going to be in the cupboard, in the dark but we will not water it.

Most of the class predicted that Seed A will grow the best as it has sunlight and water.  We will keep checking the seeds to find out if they are correct.

Plants

In Science this half term we will be learning about plants.  Yesterday we went outside and had a look at some of the plants around school.

Then we thought about what a plant needs to grow.  We planned an investigation to find out exactly what they need.

Measuring and Weighing

In Maths this week we have been measuring and weighing different items.  We used rulers to look at how many centimetres objects were and used words such as 'longer', 'shorter' and 'the same as' to compare lengths.

We also looked at how heavy objects were.  We used words such as 'heavier' and 'lighter' to compare the objects we weighed on our scales.
