Our trip to the seaside

We had a fantastic day yesterday on the beach at Burnham-on-Sea.  We were very lucky to have some good weather.

We enjoyed playing on the beach, splashing in the sea and eating our chips and ice-cream.  (The cheeky seagulls enjoyed our chips too!)

Identifying trees

This afternoon we worked with 1.2.  As part of our Science we walked around the playground and looked at different types of trees.  We identified the trees on our list by looking at their leaves.  We also learned 2 new words to describe trees:- deciduous and evergreen.

Science investigation

In Science this week we have been learning about the different parts of a plant.  We talked about the jobs that each part did.  We learned that the stem's job is the carry water, vitamins and minerals from the soil up to the flower. We set up an investigation to see if this is true.

We put some water and food colouring into a cup and placed a white flower inside.  We are going to wait and see what happens.  If it is true that the stem carries water up to the flower, the petals should begin to change colour to match the food colouring.
