Science Investigation

In Science we have been learning about different materials and their properties.  We carried out an investigation to find out which material would be the best to make an umbrella for Ted.

The materials we tested were:
-paper
-wood
-plastic
-fabric

Before our investigation, we made a prediction about whether we thought each material would be waterproof.

We poured the same amount of water over each material to make it a fair test.  Then we observed what happened.

The paper went very thin and ended up with a hole in so we decided that this was not suitable for an umbrella.

The wood was waterproof and kept Ted dry and was very strong.  We said that it would make a good umbrella however, it might be quite heavy and hut Ted if it was to fall on him.

The plastic was waterproof and did a good job of keeping Ted dry.  It was also nice and light and esy to fold up.

The fabric ended up soaking up the water so we decided that if Ted went out in a heavy rain shower, this would not be very good as he would get wet.

Overall we decided that plastic was the best material to use for Ted's umbrella.
