2D and 3D shapes

In Maths we have been thinking about 2D and 3D shapes.

Can you remember the difference?

We described some shapes according to their properties.

Can you guess which 2D shape I am thinking of?
It has 4 sides.
It has 4 corners.
2 sides are long.
2 sides are short?

We sorted squares, circles, triangles and rectangles.

Then we thought about 3D shapes.  These are the solid shapes that we can pick up and move around.  We learned the names of:
  • Cube
  • Cuboid
  • Cylinder
  • Sphere
  • Square-based pyramid

We were set a challenge of making 3D shapes out of straws and plastercine.  This was not easy!

Here are some of our finished shapes.

Umar worked very hard to count the corners on his cuboid.

Medinah and Alfie had a look around the classroom and found lots of different shapes.
